বর্তমান বাংলা সাহিত্য ও চলচ্চিত্রের এক অন্যতম মুখপত্র ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’। বিগত চার বছর ধরে ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ (প্রথম প্রকাশ ২৪ মে ২০১৮ / ৯ জ্যৈষ্ঠ ১৪২৫ বঙ্গাব্দ) বাংলা ও বাঙালির এক অনন্য মনন ও চেতনার সঙ্গে অঙ্গাঙ্গী ভাবে জড়িয়ে গিয়েছে। ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রত্যেক কার্যনির্বাহী সদস্য জড়িত একশো বছরের ঐতিহ্যবাহী ‘সন্দেশ’ পত্রিকার প্রকাশনার সঙ্গে। সেই সন্দেশীদের মধ্যে থেকেই ক’জন সদস্যের বেশ কিছুদিন ধরেই মাথায় ঘুরপাক খাচ্ছিল— উৎকৃষ্ট মানের, গভীর চিন্তাধারার একটি পত্রিকা প্রকাশ করবার। যা কেবল গল্প, কবিতা, উপন্যাসকে কেন্দ্র করেই নয়, মূলত বৈচিত্রপূর্ণ বিষয়ের প্রবন্ধকে কেন্দ্র করেই সাজানো হবে পত্রিকার পাতায়। গভীর চিন্তাধারার অথচ গুরুগম্ভীর লেখা নয়— সহজ-সরল প্রাঞ্জল ভাষায়, সাবলীল লেখনীতে সমৃদ্ধ লেখাই ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র অন্যতম বৈশিষ্ট। অর্থাৎ, আট থেকে আশি— সব বয়সী পাঠক-পাঠিকাই এর রস গ্রহণে তৃপ্ত হবেন।
পত্রিকার শুরুটা একেবারে আচমকা নয়। দীর্ঘ কয়েক বছরের স্বপ্ন-পরিকল্পনার সার্থক রূপায়ণ ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’। পত্রিকা প্রকাশের গোড়ায়, ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ উপদেষ্টা হিসেবে পেয়েছিলেন সাহিত্য ও চলচ্চিত্র জগতের বিশিষ্ট কিছু মানুষজনকে। যেমন— সৌমিত্র চট্টোপাধ্যায়, বুদ্ধদেব গুহ, শীর্ষেন্দু মুখোপাধ্যায়, নবনীতা দেব সেন থেকে শুরু করে শান্তিনিকেতনের প্রবীণ আশ্রমিক ও ঠাকুরবাড়ির সদস্য সুপ্রিয় ঠাকুর, কবি প্রণবকুমার মুখোপাধ্যায়, সাংবাদিক-প্রাবন্ধিক শঙ্করলাল ভট্টাচার্য, অভিনেতা চিরঞ্জিত চক্রবর্তী প্রমুখ বিশিষ্ট ব্যাক্তির সুচিন্তিত পরামর্শে ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’— ত্রৈমাসিক পত্রিকা হিসেবে যাত্রা শুরু করে।
বাঙালি পাঠকের আঙিনায় ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ ও রায় পরিবারের নাম প্রায় সমার্থক হয়ে গিয়েছে। পত্রিকার শুরু থেকেই ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রধান উপদেষ্টা হিসেবে আছেন সন্দীপ রায়। তাঁর তত্ত্বাবধানে ও সুচিন্তিত পরামর্শে বুদ্ধিজীবী মহল থেকে শুরু করে সাধারণ বাঙালি পাঠক-পাঠিকার কাছে ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ এখন ঘরের পত্রিকা হয়ে উঠেছে। বাংলার প্রবাদপ্রতিম ব্যক্তিত্ব থেকে শুরু করে সমসাময়িক কৃতি মানুষদের সৃষ্টি ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রধান সম্পদ। পাশাপাশি বাংলা সংস্কৃতির বিপুল ঐতিহ্যপূর্ণ সম্পদ থেকে হারিয়ে যাওয়া সব মণি-মুক্তো তুলে এনে পাঠক-পাঠিকাদের কাছে নতুন চেহারায় তুলে ধরা এই পত্রিকার অন্যতম উদ্দেশ্য।
‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রথম সংখ্যা (বৈশাখ ১৪২৫) ‘গুপী গাইন বাঘা বাইন ৫০!’-এর জন্য কলম ধরেছিলেন প্রয়াত মৃণাল সেন, নিমাই ঘোষ-এর মতো ব্যক্তিত্ব। এর পর একে একে ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র বিভিন্ন সংখ্যার জন্য কলম ধরেছেন অমর্ত্য সেন, কবীর সুমন, সঞ্জীব চট্টোপাধ্যায়, প্রফুল্ল রায়, অপর্ণা সেন, দেবাশীষ দেব সহ বিভিন্ন জগতের বহু বিশিষ্টজন। ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রথম বর্ষের তৃতীয় সংখ্যা ‘বিশেষ শান্তিনিকেতন সংখ্যা’ (জানুয়ারি ২০১৯, প্রচ্ছদ: দেবাশীষ দেব)-তে প্রকাশিত হয় সত্যজিৎ রায়ের চিত্রনাট্য ‘সুকুমার রায়’। এই শুরু— এর পর একের-পর-এক প্রকাশিত হচ্ছে সত্যজিৎ রায়ের বিভিন্ন ছবির চিত্রনাট্য (সচিত্র)। যা এই পত্রিকার অন্যতম অলংকার।
‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ শুরু থেকেই প্রকাশিত হচ্ছে ব্যক্তিগত উদ্যোগে— কোনও রকম বড় আর্থিক সহায়তা ছাড়াই। সম্পূর্ণ নিজেদের খরচায় ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রকাশ। আর্থিক সমস্যা ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র সর্বক্ষণের সঙ্গী। কিন্তু তা সত্ত্বেও পত্রিকার কার্যনির্বাহী সদস্যরা হার মানতে নারাজ। এক ধারাবাহিক চেষ্টার ফলাফল ত্রৈমাসিক ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রকাশ। গোড়ার সংখ্যা থেকে তৃতীয় বর্ষ দ্বিতীয় সংখ্যা (অবনীন্দ্রনাথ ১৫০, ফেব্রুয়ারি-এপ্রিল ২০২১, প্রচ্ছদ: সন্দীপ রায়) পর্যন্ত মোট দশটি সংখ্যা প্রকাশিত হয় সৌরদীপ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ও সৌম্যকান্তি দত্ত’র যুগ্ম-সম্পাদনায়। এর পর চতুর্থ বর্ষ প্রথম সংখ্যা (সত্যজিৎ ১০০, মে-জুলাই ২০২১, প্রচ্ছদ: সুব্রত গঙ্গোপাধ্যায়) থেকে সৌরদীপ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ও সৌম্যকান্তি দত্ত’র সঙ্গে আরেক সম্পাদক হিসেবে যোগ দেন ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রাক্তন সহ-সম্পাদক অয়ন চট্টোপাধ্যায়। ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’-র প্রথম বর্ষ প্রথম সংখ্যার প্রকাশক ছিলেন নীলাভ ভাওয়াল, এর পর প্রথম বর্ষ দ্বিতীষ সংখ্যা (৮৩-তে বুদ্ধদেব গুহ, সেপ্টেম্বর ২০১৮, প্রচ্ছদ: স্যমন্তক চট্টোপাধ্যায়) থেকে প্রকাশক হলেন রাহুল মজুমদার। ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ নামের ক্যালিগ্রাফিটি করেছেন স্যমন্তক চট্টোপাধ্যায় ও সম্পাদকদের নামের লেটারিংটি করেছেন সন্দীপ রায়।
এবার ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ আর ছাপা-কাগজেই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়, পাঠক-পাঠিকাদের বিপুল চাহিদায়, দেশের বাইরের বাঙালি পাঠক-পাঠিকাদের আন্তরিক অনুরোধে এবং পাঠক-পাঠিকাদের সঙ্গে এই আন্তরিক সম্পর্ক আরও মজবুত করে তুলতে ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ এখন ই-বিশ্বে। বিশ্বের যে-কোনও প্রান্ত থেকে সংস্কৃতিমনষ্ক বাঙালির তথা এই পত্রিকার প্রিয় পাঠক-পাঠিকাদের হাতের মুঠোয় এবার থেকে ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’।

‘Bichitropotro’ is one of the mouthpieces of contemporary Bengali literature and cinema. For the last four years, ‘ Bichitropotro’ (first published on 24 May 2018, i.e., 9 Jaistha 1425 on Bengali Calendar) has been intertwined inextricably with a unique way of thinking and consciousness of the Bengal and Bengalis. Every executive member of ‘ Bichitropotro’ is involved with the publication of the hundred-year-old heritage bengali literary magazine, ‘Sandesh’. Some of those Sandeshis (the members of ‘Sandesh’ is often called as Sandeshi) had been thinking for a long time about publishing a magazine of excellent quality and deep thought, which will be arranged not only on the basis of stories, poems, novels, but also and mainly on the basis of articles of various topics. And one of the distinctness of ‘ Bichitropotro’ is its rich, eloquent writing in simple and clear language. That’s why, readers of all ages can intake the essence of the Bengali literature properly but in a different way.
The beginning of the magazine was not a surprise. ‘ Bichitropotro’ is a successful implementation of a long dream of some young literary lovers. At the beginning, the magazine got some eminent personalities from different fields as Advisors. Such as, Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Buddhadeb Guha, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Nabaneeta Dev Sen, Supriya Tagore, a veteran Ashramik of Santiniketan and member of The Tagore family, poet Pranab Kumar Mukhopadhyay, journalist-essayist Shankarlal Bhattacharya and actor Chiranjit Chakrabarty.
In the court of Bengali readers, the names of ‘ Bichitropotro’ and the Ray family have become almost synonymous. Sandip Ray has been the Chief Advisor from the very first day. Under his supervision and well-thought-out advice, ‘ Bichitropotro’ has now become a must-have for the Bengali readers. Creations of the proverbial personalities to contemporaries of Bengal is the main asset of the magazine. Besides, one of the objectives is to bring out all the lost gems and pearls from the huge traditional resources of Bengali culture and present them to the readers in anew outlook.
The great bengali filmmaker Late Mrinal Sen and still-photographer Late Nimai Ghosh had penned for the first issue of ‘ Bichitropotro’ (Baishakh 1425), ‘GupiGyneBaghaByne 50!’. After that, other eminent personalities from different fields like Amartya Sen, Kabir Suman, Sanjib Chattopadhyay, Prafulla Roy, Aparna Sen, Debashish Dev have written for different issues. Satyajit Ray’s screenplay of the documentary film, ‘Sukumar Ray’ was published in the third issue of the first year of ‘ Bichitropotro’, i.e., ‘Santiniketan Special Issue’ (January 2019, Cover design: Debashish Dev). After that, the screenplays (with rare photographs) of various films of Satyajit Ray are being published one after another, which is also an ornament of the magazine.
‘ Bichitropotro’ has been published on individual initiative from the very beginning — without any major financial support. So, financial problems are the constant companion of ‘ Bichitropotro’. But despite this, the executive members are loath to accept the defeat. As a result of their continuous efforts is the publication of the quarterly, ‘ Bichitropotro’. From the beginning issue to the second issue of the third year (Abanindranath 150, February-April 2021, Cover design: Sandip Ray), a total of ten issues were published under the joint editing of Souradip Bandyopadhyay and Soumyakanti Dutta. After that, Ayan Chattopadhyay, former Co-Editor of ‘ Bichitropotro’, joined Souradip Bandyopadhyay and Soumyakanti Dutta as Joint-Editor from the first issue of the fourth year (Satyajit 100, May-July 2021, Cover design: Subrata Gangopadhyay). NeelavaBhawal was the publisher of the very first issue, followed by Rahul Majumder from the second issue of the first year (Buddhadeb Guha in 83, September 2018, Cover design: Syamantak Chattopadhyay). The calligraphy of ‘ Bichitropotro’ was done by Syamantak Chattopadhyay and the lettering of names of the editors was done by Sandip Ray.
Now, the magazine is no longer limited to the printed papers only, but due to the huge demand of readers, sincere requests of Bengali readers outside the country and to strengthen this cordial relationship with them, ‘ Bichitropotro’ is now in the e-world. From now on, the magazine will be in the hands of culture-minded Bengalis from all over the world and to all the readers who want to read and connect with us.
