‘কিংবদন্তী পাবলিশার্স’-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও প্রকাশক রাহুল মজুমদার তাঁর জবানীতেই জানিয়েছেন— “অনেক দিন ধরেই সাহিত্যিক বন্ধুদের অভিযোগ শুনতাম, নিজেদের বই করতে গেলে প্রকাশকেরা নাকি ঠকান। পুরোপুরি বিশ্বাস করা যায় এমন প্রকাশকের খোঁজ করার থেকে আমাদের মধ্যেই কেউ যদি প্রকাশনার ভার নেয়— এভাবেই ‘কিংবদন্তী’-র জন্ম। প্রথম বই অবশ্যই আমার নিজের— ‘খুদে রাজপুত্তুর’, সেটা ১৯৮৪ সাল। এরপর, ভবানীদা, মানে কবি ভবানীপ্রসাদ মজুমদার, প্রমদারঞ্জন রায়, সুকুমার রায় থেকে শুরু করে অরুণিমা রায়চৌধুরী প্রভৃতি শিশুসাহিত্যিকদের বই ছাড়াও শিশিরকুমার মজুমদার স্মরণ সমিতির শিশুসাহিত্য সংকলনগুলির প্রকাশনার ভার নিয়েছিল ‘কিংবদন্তী’। মূলত শিশুসাহিত্য নিয়েই ‘কিংবদন্তী’-র পথ চলা। অবশ্য গোটা দুই ট্রেকিং গাইডও ‘কিংবদন্তী’-র ঝুলিতে আছে। ১৯৯৭ থেকে নিয়মিত কলকাতা পুস্তকমেলায় স্টল নিয়ে এসেছে ‘কিংবদন্তী’, যদিও গত কয়েক বছর তাতে ছেদ পড়েছে। এবার ‘দ্য বিচিত্রপত্র ফাউন্ডেশন’-এর উদ্যোগে ও ‘বিচিত্রপত্র’ ত্রৈমাসিক পত্রিকার হাত ধরে ‘কিংবদন্তী’ পা রাখতে চলেছে বড়দের জগতে। সাহিত্য-সমৃদ্ধ এই সংস্থার সঙ্গে যুক্ত হয়ে ‘কিংবদন্তী’ ঋদ্ধ পাঠকদের মনোজগতে স্থায়ী আসন করে নিতে পারবে— এই আমাদের বিশ্বাস।”
Rahul Majumder, the founder and publisher of ‘Kingbadanti Publishers’, said in a statement, “I have been hearing complaints from my literary friends for a long time that publishers cheat when they go to publish their books. So, it’ll be better if any of us take the responsibility of publishing rather than to search for trustworthy amongst the existings — this is how ‘Kingbadanti’ was born. The first book, of course, was my own — ‘Khude Rajputtur’, in 1984. After that, the books of Children’s Authors like Bhabanida, means the poet Bhabani Prasad Majumder, Pramadaranjan Ray, Sukumar Ray, Arunima Raychowdhury and also the children’s literature collections of ‘Shishirkumar Majumdar Smaran Samiti’. Basically, the children’s literature is the way of ‘Kingbadanti’. Though ‘Kingbadanti’ has published two trekking guides as well. ‘Kingbadanti’ has given stalls at the Kolkata Book Fair regularly since 1997, except in the past few years. This time, with the initiative of ‘The Bichitrapatra Foundation’ and ‘Bichitrapatra’ quarterly magazine, ‘Kingbadanti’ is coming in anew outlook. By joining the hands with this rich literary organization, hopefully ‘Kingbadanti’ will be able to make a permanent place in the minds of the readers.”
